Butler Assistant Police Chief Arrested for DUI Saturday

Andrew Ryan, Butler University assistant police chief, was arrested Saturday night for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, according to a police report from the Indianapolis Marion County Police Department.

Officers responded to the scene of an accident at 6:16 p.m. on the east side of Indianapolis after Ryan turned his vehicle in front of another causing the accident. Ryan failed two sobriety tests and had a BAC of .27, according to the incident report. The legal limit in Indiana is .08 percent.

The driver of the other vehicle had a swollen and bruised hand, according to the report.

Ryan was released Sunday on a $145 bond according to the court record. His hearing is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 10 at 9 a.m.

According to a statement released by the university, Ryan was neither on duty nor in a university vehicle. He has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation.
