Men’s Tennis competes at Purdue Invitational

The Butler men’s tennis team competed in the fifth annual Purdue Fall Invitational this weekend.

The team was hoping for a strong showing this weekend from their singles as well as for their doubles teams to continue the success they saw at the River Forest Invitational.

Teams at the Purdue Fall Invitational included Case Western Reserve, Chicago, Chicago State, Cleveland State, DePaul, Eastern Kentucky, University of Wisconsin Green Bay, Iowa, IUPUI, Louisville, Marquette, Tennessee Tech, Toledo, Valaparaiso, Vincennes, and Western Michigan.

Pulok Bhattacharya won his first two matches in Flight C singles before falling short to Johnson from DePaul University.

In Flight D singles, Alex Wodmoe made it to the consolation finals but was defeated by Turkov from Marquette.

Brandon Woods, also competing in Flight D, won his first match of the tournament before losing to, the later champion of the Flight, Mena from Tennessee Tech.

Thomas Marx came in second place behind Tajes from Tennessee Tech.

The doubles team of Weldon and O’Neill, won just their first match in Flight A against Kecic and Payne from Western Michigan

Brandon Woods and Austin Woldmoe competed in Flight B doubles this tournament after winning Flight C doubles at their previous tournament- the River Forest Invitational- but fell short their first game to Cahn and Hamilton from Western Michigan.

The team will not be back in action again until Oct. 16 at ITA Regionals held in Nashville, Tennesee.
