The Butler women’s soccer team moved to 9-3-1 on the season after a two-overtime scoreless draw with Xavier on Oct. 4. The game marked the first time this season that the Bulldogs have not decided a match in regulation.

For second straight year, 110 minutes was not enough to decide the match between the two programs after a 2-2 draw last season.

Goalkeepers Hannah Luedtke and Leonie Doege combined for the Bulldogs’ fourth shutout in Big East play and their eighth of the season so far. The duo has not allowed a goal since the Bulldogs final non-conference match, a 6-1 loss to TCU on Sept. 16.

After a quiet first half where the Musketeers led the shot count 5-1, the Bulldogs responded with an aggressive second half while pouring on nine shots to Xavier’s seven.

In the overtime periods, the best chance for Butler to sneak away with a win came in the 111th minute from junior forward Macy Miller. The chance brought out Xavier goalkeeper Toni Bizzarro where Miller sent the shot just wide of the net.

With the draw, the Bulldogs remain undefeated in the Big East Conference and continue an eight-year unbeaten streak against the Musketeers.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Oct. 7 as they continue their two-game road swing with a matchup against St. John’s.
