Bulldogs face tough foes

Conference games have begun, and the Butler men’s soccer team has a string of eight matches in the span of five weeks.

The first conference game was played on Saturday against the nationally ranked Georgetown University, which is predicted to win the Big East this year.  Butler’s efforts resulted in a 2-0 loss, despite the score being 0-0 up until the last 10 minutes of the game.

Butler will play its second conference game on the road on Oct. 4.

Butler will travel to New York to face St. John’s University at 7:30 p.m.

Butler sophomore David Goldsmith  said he knows that St. John’s is going to be a tough opponent, and that no game can ever be overlooked.

“Every game is like a new game,” Goldsmith said. “We know they are going to be in our faces, they’re going to be battling and they’re going to be strong, so we’ve got to work hard in training.”

Last year was the first year the Bulldogs faced off against St. John’s as a conference match, and the game ended in a 1-0 loss for Butler, resulting from a goal scored by the opposing team a little more than 30 seconds into the game.

The Bulldogs are looking to end their 0-4 all-time record against St. John’s on Saturday.
