Butler University’s next president will be announced today at 2 p.m. in the Reilly Room. The announcement of current president Bobby Fong’s replacement comes after weeks of silence from the Presidential Search Committee.
James P. White, chair of the Committee, said in an April 4 statement that while he understands the Butler community was interested in learning about the candidates, it was imperative that the interview phase of the process was confidential.
“If the search were public, sitting presidents, provosts or other administrators could choose to remove themselves as candidates fearing backlashes on their current position,” White said in the statement.
As of press time, the search progress on Butler’s website indicated that the Committee was in the selection phase of the process, which includes the finalist being presented to Board of Trustees, official selection, signing of the contract and going over transition considerations.
The Butler community is invited to attend the announcement. Those who cannot attend can watch live coverage on Butler’s website. Check back at the Collegian website (thebutlercollegian.com) for updated presidential selection coverage.
