The Butler softball team defeated Lipscomb University 11-6 Sunday to conclude the South Alabama Mardi Gras Invitational, sending them home with a record of 2-3 for the tournament and 4-5 on the young season.

The Bulldogs got even with Lipscomb with an eight-run second inning Sunday after losing 2-1 to them on Friday.

Home runs from Freshman Alyssa Lach and Junior Alex Kotter powered the Bulldogs’ offense.

The Bulldogs went 0-2 in a double-header against South Alabama and Oklahoma State on Saturday.

South Alabama beat the Bulldogs 9-4 and Sophomore Kacey Starwalt took the loss.

Despite two solo home runs from Alex Kotter and Alyssa Lach, the Bulldogs could not create enough offense to compete with South Alabama’s nine runs.

Butler lost to Oklahoma State 9-5.

The Cowboys scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning before the Bulldogs answered with the four runs in the fifth and one run in the seventh.  Junior Kristin Gutierrez took the loss for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs began the tournament with a 3-1 win over Evansville Friday.

Starwalt (1-1) got her first win of the season against Lipscomb.

Sunday’s win is not the only thing worth celebrating for the Bulldogs, however.

After two tournaments and a total of nine games, Alex Kotter has a batting average of .630, a slugging percentage of 1.037, three home runs, and 11 RBIs, in 27 at-bats.

Kotter and the Bulldogs look towards next weekend when they will be heading down to Memphis, Tennessee to play in the Memphis Invitational.
