Sarah Diaz, associate director of health education and outreach programs, announced on Oct. 2 she is leaving Butler University after 12 years.

Diaz posted on LinkedIn that she has accepted a senior learning management position at the Girls, Inc. National Resource Center in Indianapolis. Diaz will oversee the development and dissemination of campaigns and curriculum related to healthy sexuality and other topics. Her last day at Butler is Oct. 11.

When asked for a comment on her departure, Diaz referred the Collegian to her LinkedIn post.

“This is a dream-job for me, and one that came at a time when I was ready to explore a new path,” Diaz said in the post. “As with any major life decision, this has come with a great deal of thought about the past, present and future both my own and Butler University’s.”

At Butler, Diaz focused on sexual violence primary prevention, bystander intervention, substance abuse advising and social media campaign development. Diaz also served as interim victim advocate until Butler hired Jules Arthur, sexual assault response & prevention specialist, on Sept. 17.

Scott Peden, executive director of student health & recreation, will immediately initiate the search for a replacement. Peden announced Diaz’s departure to Student Affairs on Sept. 28.

“The process to post, recruit, interview and hire can take up to a few months,” Peden said in an email to The Butler Collegian. “But my goal is to have someone in place by the beginning of the spring semester, if not sooner.”

In her time at Butler, Diaz created several campus initiatives with relation to sexual violence and health education. These programs include Community of Care, Red Cup Culture, the Victim Advocacy support service and BU Good Clean Fun.

Until Diaz’s replacement is hired, students can direct any sexual misconduct programming feedback or concerns to Arthur in HRC 119.

The Butler Collegian will update this story when the position has been filled.
