Butler Homecoming 2025: ‘Sweet Home Sellick’ brings a week of events

The week of Sept. 21-27 marks Butler’s annual Homecoming celebrations. This year’s theme is “Sweet Home Sellick” and includes a week of traditions, festivities and contests followed by Saturday’s football game vs. Marist, men’s soccer game vs. Akron and women’s soccer game vs. Providence at the Sellick Bowl.

Spirit Tabling: Sept. 22-26, 11 a.m.- 1 p.m.

The University Program Council (UPC) will be at Star Fountain each day with different events and gifts such as spirit items and care packages.

Paw and Pies: Sept. 24, 11 a.m.- 1 p.m.

Butler Blue IV and members of Butler University Dance Marathon (BUDM)  have partnered with the UPC in a pie-throwing fundraiser. Students have the chance to donate to BUDM in support of Riley Children’s Hospital. Pies will be $3 for one pie or $5 for two.

Wear it Wednesday: Sept. 24, 3 p.m.- 6 p.m.

Materials to decorate one’s own Butler merch will take place in the Reilly Room. Paint, Patches and other supplies will be provided by UPC. Caricature artists will also be there.

Holcomb Planetarium Show and Telescope Viewing: Sept. 26, 7 p.m.

Two shows will take place — one at 7:30 p.m. and the other at 8:30 p.m. Free telescope viewing will be available after the show, depending on the weather. Admission is $5 for children and students under 18 and $8 for adults. Butler students and staff are free with their Butler ID.

FUNKFEST: Sept. 26, 7:30 p.m.

Doug E. Fresh will be hosting a mix of different funk live performers at Clowes Memorial Hall. Names such as the Con Funk Shun, Midnight Star, Downstroke and more will be there.

Tailgating opens: Sept. 27, 8 a.m

Alumni, family and students will be able to spend time with friends while enjoying food and drinks in the Sellick Bowl parking lot.

Phi Delta Theta and Sigma Chi Fraternity Chariot Races: Sept. 27, 9 a.m. 

The seven chapters of Interfraternity Council fraternities on campus will race, pulling homemade chariots down Hampton Drive. Students and alumni will be able to line the street to cheer for the competitors.  

24th Annual Butler Bulldog Beauty Contest, Presented by: Sept 27, 10 a.m.

Considered one of Butler’s favorite traditions, Butler Blue IV will host a competition for the cutest bulldog. Bulldogs will be able to participate in different categories and have the chance to win Bulldog Congeniality. This event will take place in the Hinkle Fieldhouse parking lot and is free for all. 

Butler vs. Marist Football Game: Sept 27, 1 p.m.

The centerpiece of Homecoming weekend. Butler will take on Marist at the Sellick Bowl. Tickets will be $12 for General Admission and $8 for the youth. 

Students can find schedules on the Engage platform and through UPC’s Instagram, which will post reminders and event updates. Butler’s Homecoming website further provides schedules specific to alumni and families.
