This week Pita Pit, located in the parking garage on Butler’s campus, closed its doors.

In an email, a university spokesperson told the Collegian, “The management of Pita Pit told the university they were running unsustainable operating losses.”

This means the business spent more than it made.

Franchise owner and Butler graduate Travis Sealls also owns the downtown Pita Pit located on Pennsylvania Street. He declined to comment on the closing of the Butler location.

The Collegian discovered the sign on the door June 14 that read “Thank you for your loyalty and patronage these past few months. We made the difficult decision to close our doors.”

The university did not make the announcement until Thursday. Students and faculty commented about the news on social media.

Jay Howard, dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, shared the Collegian post about the closing on Facebook, stating “Disappointing news, but I suspected as much when I noticed Pita Pit was closed on Friday [June 9] at noon.”

Michelle Stighay commented on Howard’s post, ”I hope another less expensive option moves in quickly.”

Students like junior Katie Pfaff suggested on Twitter Jack’s Donuts should take its place.

The restaurant was located in the spot between Metro Diner and Scotty’s Dawghouse. Pita Pit opened in November.

The university has not yet released plans for what will go in that space next.

The Butler Collegian will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
