Butler’s chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma has received educational sanctions and a conduct probation status now in effect until Dec. 17, 2027. The Student Organization Conduct Disclosures page further states that the chapter violated “rules regarding hazing and providing alcohol to underage persons”.
The probation is based on violations of three of the university’s rules of conduct: one, six and 13. These infractions include violating the university’s published policies, conduct that endangers the health or safety of others and illegal distribution of alcoholic beverages.
The Butler student handbook states that sororities receiving conduct charges through the Office of the Dean of Students are entitled to a conduct review process in which the president of the accused organization meets with a conduct officer.
In an email to The Butler Collegian, Abby Ayre, vice president of accountability and risk management for the Butler Panhellenic Association, clarified that the conduct violation was with the university’s rules and not involved with the Panhellenic Associate student constitutions.
“The organization is handling this violation internally,” Ayre stated. “No actions from the Panhellenic side are being affected, including recruitment. Panhellenic has a strict no hazing policy and this continues to be enforced amongst all organizations.”
Kappa Kappa Gamma will continue to be involved in primary recruitment, beginning in January, with registration open until Dec. 21. The chapter currently has 178 active members at Butler.
According to the conduct disclosure page, there is currently only one other Greek house not in good standing with the university.
The Butler Collegian reached out to the dean of students, the office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, the president of the Butler Panhellenic Association and the vice president of accountability and risk management for the Butler Panhellenic Association. None of the parties consented to an interview at the time of publication.
The Butler Collegian also reached out to Kappa president Caitlyn Guy for comment and did not receive a response.
