Butler men’s golf finishes ninth in final fall tournament

The Butler University men’s golf team completed fall semester play Oct. 29-30, finishing ninth in the Homewood Hilton Airport Invitational tournament in Estero, Florida.

Hosted by Florida Gulf Coast University, the tournament was shortened from 54 to 36 holes due to rain on the first day of competition.

The Bulldogs battled rough course conditions to complete the first round of play in a tie for second place, but slipped seven positions in the field of 13 teams during the final round.  

Sophomore Logan Sabins led the team with a two-round total of 155 (+11), finishing tied for third in the 68-player field. Entering play on the second day of competition, Sabins was in a tie for second after a round of 78 (+6). He followed that performance up with a round of 77.

Sophomore Patrick Allgeier finished in a tie for 32nd overall with a two-round total of 165 (+21). Allgeier shot a 82 and 83 in the two rounds of play.

Freshman Michael Casino shot a combined 167 (+23), while juniors Zack Carrabine (180; +36) and Gehrig Hollatz (187; +43) rounded out the Butler team.

The University of Central Florida took the team title with a two-round score of 624 (+48), followed by Keiser University (636, +60) and Florida Atlantic (637, +61). Daniel Brennan of Bethune-Cookman won the individual title with a total of 151 (+7), shooting 75 and 76.

The Bulldogs will have the next few months off from competition before returning to action Feb. 17-18 at the William & Mary Invitational tournament in Savannah, Georgia.
