Efforts from the Butler University women’s tennis team fell short at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville on Saturday. With the 7-0 loss, the team’s record drops to 1-10 overall.

The Bulldogs found little success in singles play. Sophomore Bailey Padgett has played consistently in the No. 1 singles slot for Butler. She found herself on the end of a 1-6, 2-6 loss against Lexi Aranda.

In No. 2 singles, senior Konstantina Adami held on with a close score of 4-6 in the first set before losing in the second.

Similarly, the remainder of Butler’s singles players were defeated by SIUE in two sets, the lone exception being No. 4 Kailey Eaton. After losing 0-6 in the first set, the junior was able to rally back 6-2 to push on a third set. Eaton eventually fell to McKenzie Thomas in a score of 2-6.

Padgett and Adami paired up to play No. 1 doubles for Butler. Their final score of 3-5 was Butler’s closest deficit. Eaton and Jocelyn Koester fell 1-6, while the duo of Rachel Sutton and Grace Hyde lost 1-6.

The team travels to Illinois State University for their next match Feb. 21.
