Men’s golf’s record-setting day ended in a championship win at the Tom Tontimonia Invitational hosted by Cleveland State.
The Bulldog’s total of 823 is 17 shots better than any 54-hole team performance in program history.
Junior Damon Dickey captured medalist honors and set the program record for the best 54-hole score at 10-under 203. He was just a shot in front of redshirt senior Daniel Tanaka who finished at 204 (-9).
The two-day tournament began on Monday Oct. 2 at the Lakewood Country Club in Westlake, Ohio. Dickey started off strong with scores of 68 and 66 on the first day which put him at eight-under 134 before Tuesday. To follow this up, he shot a two-under 69 to maintain first place. Tanaka shot a 67 on Tuesday to advance him from a tie for sixth to the runner-up spot.
Along with Dickey and Tanaka, sophomore Derek Tabor shot the best for the Dawgs on day two of play, with a six-under 65. He finished tied for eighth.
The team looks to further their success next week in West Lafayette, when they play in the Purdue Fall Invitational.
