Lady Bulldogs pull off seventh straight win

BY AUSTIN MILLER | ASST. SPORTS EDITOR

The Butler women’s basketball team won their seventh consecutive game Sunday afternoon, defeating rival Xavier 58-54 in Cincinnati.

Ijeoma Uchendu led the Bulldogs (11-9 overall, 7-2 Big East), scoring 22 points, while sophomore Loryn Goodwin and junior Blaire Langlois added 11 and 10 points, respectively. Langlois dished out five assists.

Xavier’s Jenna Crittendon notched a team-high 18 points and pulled down seven rebounds for the host Musketeers.

Tied at 52 at the final media timeout, the Bulldogs outscored the Musketeers 6-2 over the final 3:01 to secure the win.

The Musketeers (12-8, 4-5) had three offensive rebounds on their final possession before senior Belle Obert came up with her second block of the game to seal the deal for the Bulldogs.

The victory allows Butler to keep pace with conference-leading Seton Hall, who is a game ahead of Butler in the standings.

The Bulldogs are off until this Friday when they will travel to play the Providence Friars. The Bulldogs then head to Creighton on Sunday.

Butler beat Providence (5-15, 2-7) on Jan. 2 66-61 to start the win streak. The Bulldogs beat Creighton (10-10, 3-6) 63-58 in the next game on Jan. 4.

The Providence game tips off at 7:00 Friday and the Creighton game is at 2:00 Sunday.
