Bulldogs score early and often, shut out IPFW en route to win

The Bulldogs (2-4) opened their home slate in strong fashion this afternoon as they shut out Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (1-4)  4-0.

Freshman Shannon McDevitt started the scoring for the Bulldogs when she scored in the 14th minute.

The lead became 2-0 when senior Elise Kotsakis scored five minutes later. Sophia Maccagnone assisted the goal.

Annie Weber added a goal with 9:08 left in the half to extend the lead to three.

Kotsakis got her second goal of the game 10 minutes into the second half when her shot went passed the outstretched arms of IPFW’s goalie.

Four goals is the most Butler has scored in a game this season. The team scored five goals in its first five games this season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jayne Heinrich had two saves on the day, picking up her first win of the season.

Butler outshot the Mastodons 25-4.

The Bulldogs host Indiana State University on Thursday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. The game is also Stay Positive Day at the Butler Bowl.
