Taylor, television and Tina

Monday, National Puppy Day, was Emily Zalewski’s favorite holiday.

“Dogs are my favorite things,” she said. “After Taylor Swift and Vera Bradley, of course.”

Zalewski is a sophomore digital media production major and English-creative writing minor from Homewood, Illinois.

At Butler University, she holds a job at the bookstore.

Her duties there include manning a register, checking on customers and making sure items are properly organized.

“I feel like people rearrange things just to spite me sometimes,” she said.

Zalewski also gets the opportunity to discuss her love of Butler with prospective students when they walk through the bookstore during campus tours.

“It’s telling people all about why I like Butler, why I chose it and why I’m still here, two years in,” she laughed.

Aside from the beautiful campus, Zalewski remains at Butler to pursue her dreams of becoming a TV personality.

This week, she spoke with her academic advisor about scheduling next semester’s classes.

“I’m excited because the fall semester is going to be just my major and minor,” she said. “It’s going to be what I actually want to do, which will be really fun.”

Zalewski’s post-Butler goals are not small.

“Basically, I want to be Tina Fey,” she said. “I want to get to her level—where other people are saying, ‘I want to be Emily Zalewski.’ That’s my life goal.”
