The Butler men’s and women’s tennis both won their most recent matches.
The women competed on Feb. 16 against Southern Indiana in Evansville. Butler swept the doubles point. Two pairings (Lauryn Padgett/Sarah Monesmith and Emily Neal/Sara Linn) defeated their competition 6-0. Kendal Wilby and partner Caroline McAuley won their doubles matchup 6-2.
In singles play, Nina Bertino did not allow a single point, beating USI’s Kylie Skepnek 6-0, 6-0. Padgett would win her match with a shutout victory of her own. Neal, McAuley, and Lauren Marx would go on to take down their opponents, and the ladies finished the weekend with a 6-1 victory. They improved to 6-6 on the year. Their next matchup is March 1 against IUPUI.
The men played their match on Feb. 18 against the University of Indianapolis. Singles matches opened with hard-fought victories by Mason Dragos and Thomas Brennan in three sets. Adrian Mag grabbed a victory with 6-0 and 6-1 wins over Matej Kostadinov. Spencer Lang also beat his opponent 6-1 and 7-5.
The men also clinched the doubles point behind a pair of victories. The first came from Mag and Aviv Ben Shabat, 6-1 in the No. 2 spot. Brennan and Lang secured the point with a 6-1 victory as well. Butler took down Indianapolis 5-2 and moved improved their record this season to 7-4. Their next matches come on Feb. 23 against Northern Illinois and Green Bay.
