The Butler University softball team split a four-game weekend event in Memphis, Tennessee, from March 9-11. The team is now 6-12 on the season.
The Bulldogs started off the weekend on Friday, March 9, with a 2-1 win over Indiana State University before falling to the University of Memphis 13-0.
In the first game, Butler scored its first run in the first inning on an RBI single by freshman infielder Maddie Moore. A third-inning RBI single from senior infielder Alyssa Lach proved to be the difference in the game. Indiana State scored a run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the third, but the Bulldogs were able to otherwise keep them off the scoreboard for the 2-1 victory.
Freshman pitcher Alyssa Graves got the start and the win for Butler, striking out four and walking four while allowing one run over seven innings.
The Bulldogs were no-hit by Memphis in their second game of the day. The Tigers scored five runs in both the second and third innings and tacked on three in the fourth for the five-inning victory. Sophomore pitcher Gabbi Schnaiter took the loss for Butler, surrendering all 13 Memphis runs in four innings of work.

In the second day of play, Butler rebounded to beat Tennessee State University 8-0. Butler scored four runs in both the first and third innings and the Tigers were unable to respond.
Senior outfielder Sarah Dixon opened up the scoring with a two-run triple in the first inning. A sacrifice bunt from Lach and an RBI single from sophomore infielder Christina Candotti gave Butler an early 4-0 advantage.
Junior pitcher/infielder Kaitlin Doud hit a solo home run in the third inning, and junior outfielder Jenna Foreman contributed an RBI single. Butler’s final two runs were unearned. Foreman had three hits and three stolen bases in the contest. On the mound, Doud threw a five-inning shutout, striking out two and allowing three hits.

Butler fell to Bowling Green State University 12-3 in the final day of the weekend. The Bulldogs scored their first two runs in the second inning on a 2 RBI single from Candotti, and tacked on a third run in the fifth on Doud’s second home run of the weekend.
Bowling Green scored four earned runs off of senior pitcher Ambry Turpen in the first three innings and seven earned runs off of Doud in the final four frames for the victory.
The Bulldogs travel to Tampa, Florida, for a series of seven games over four days from March 14-18.
