Butler volleyball closes out regular season with wins over Seton Hall and St. John’s

The Butler volleyball team earned two hard-fought victories on the east coast this weekend. On Friday, Nov. 17, Butler beat Seton Hall University and clinched a Big East tournament berth.

The Bulldogs dictated the tempo, as they defeated the Pirates 25-21, 25-14, 22-25, 25-14. Butler held a 14-3 blocking advantage. Senior setter Makayla Ferguson posted a team-high 42 assists in the match.

“We played really well,” Ferguson said. “We were able to come together as a team and fight through some tough plays. We had incredible team chemistry.”

After the dust settled, the Bulldogs had earned a 23-7 (13-5 Big East) record.

“That [match] felt simply incredible,” assistant coach Sofia Sanchez said. “Through all the ups and downs this season, I’m so proud of this team digging deep and earning a spot in the tournament.”

Butler stole a five-set victory at St. John’s University on Saturday, Nov. 18. Sophomore middle blocker/outside hitter Brooke Gregory posted 18 kills and junior middle blocker Bri Lilly posted six blocks in the 26-28, 25-14, 25-23, 21-25, 15-13.

“We pushed to end the season on a high note,” junior outside hitter Anna Logan said.

The Bulldogs will face Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in the Big East tournament on Friday, Nov. 24. Butler split the season series with the Golden Eagles.
