Butler University Health Services confirmed a case of varicella, or chicken pox.

The student continues to recover at his family’s home, according to a campus-wide email sent from Julie Howerton, director of health services, on Sept. 2.

The email stated the greatest risk for exposure was in Ross Hall during move-in and Welcome Week and the first two days of class.

Symptoms including rashes, itching and fever will appear 10 to 21 days after exposure.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends immunization for individuals over age 13 who have never had the disease or never been immunized.

Contact Health Services if symptoms develop at 317-940-9385.
