The Butler University volleyball team earned a 1-1 record at Hinkle Fieldhouse from Oct. 5-6. The Bulldogs improved to 6-13 (3-4 Big East) over the weekend.

On Oct. 5, Georgetown University swept the Bulldogs 21-25, 22-25, 21-25.  Junior outside hitter Brooke Gregory led the offense with nine kills and added two blocks. Butler held a 10-5 blocking advantage over the Hoyas.

The Bulldogs took a thrilling four-set victory over Villanova University on Oct. 6. After dropping the first set 25-27, Butler won the final sets 25-17, 25-20, 25-21. Sophomore outside hitter Natalie Ravenell barely missed a double-double, as she contributed 13 kills and nine digs.

“We learned how to push through in the end,” Ravenell said. “We did not start this week how we wanted. But we put that to the side and focused on one point at a time.”

Redshirt junior setter Maddie Freiwald recorded a double-double, posting 45 assists and 18 digs. She also notched three service aces, four kills and two blocks. The Bulldogs served 10 aces, while the Wildcats only posted four.

“They mentally went after it tonight,” head coach Sharon Clark said. “They attacked them. That’s what we have to do in this conference.

“As long we continue to fight, we give ourselves a chance,” assistant coach Sofia Sanchez said. “The team proved they can bounce back and battle anyone in this increasingly tough conference.”

Butler will head to Milwaukee to face Marquette University on Oct. 10. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
