The Butler University women’s lacrosse team fell 17-8 to Liberty University on Tuesday, March 13. The match marked the Bulldogs’ second consecutive loss on their spring break trip.

Butler fell to 0-7 on the season. Before the match, freshman attacker Ashley Guerra was named Big East Freshman of the Week.

The Bulldogs started out strong, and trailed 7-6 at halftime. Freshman attacker Karina Latsko tied up the match at 1-1 off an assist from Guerra.

“We are just meshing so well as a team,” Latsko said. “Everyone was working hard for each other.”

Guerra also scored two goals in the first half. Sophomore midfielder Christina Soderquist continued her hot streak, scoring for the second consecutive game.

“We finally played as a team,” Soderquist said. “It was an amazing feeling to feel as a unit throughout the entire field.”

Soderquist and sophomore midfielder Ashley Lizzi scored the Bulldogs’ lone goals in the second half.

“As a team, we will continue to work together and limit our turnovers,” Lizzi said.

Today’s match was a rematch of the first official game in Butler women’s lacrosse history. Liberty won that game 16-9 at Varsity Field in Indianapolis.

The Bulldogs will conclude their spring break trip with a 1 p.m. tilt against Howard University on Thursday, March 15.

“As we head into our last game, we will focus on keeping intensity and momentum during the second half,” Soderquist said.
