The Butler University men’s tennis team beat Green Bay before suffering their first loss in nearly a month to Purdue on Feb. 24.

Butler defeated Green Bay by a score of 4-2.

The Bulldogs’ pairing of Aviv Ben Shabat and Mason Dragos took care of their doubles match in the No. 1 spot, as did Ari Gerstein and Adrian Mag in the No. 3.  

After losing to Butler’s No. 1 doubles pair, Florian Kraenzler and James Ling of Green Bay each defeated Ben Shabat and Dragos respectively in singles play.

Spencer Lang and Michael Dickson each won their singles matchups, leaving either Mag or Gerstein in need of a win to secure Butler’s victory.

Mag did just that, defeating Miles McDowall in three sets. The third set concluded without blemish for Mag, a 6-0 score clinching the team’s seventh consecutive victory.

The winning streak would last for only a few more hours, as Butler would fall to Purdue by a score of 4-2.

Again, Butler took care of their doubles play, with the pairing of Dickson and Lang and the pairing of Mag and Gerstein taking care of the No. 2 and No. 3 spots respectively.

Aviv Ben Shabat and Mason Dragos continued their struggles on the day against Purdue, losing their doubles matchup before each losing individually in two sets.

Every singles matchup ended in two sets, with Michael Dickson being the only Bulldog to win, doing so in the No. 4 spot.

The Butler Bulldogs now sit at 8-3, with only a trip to Florida remaining before their first conference matchup against Villanova. They’ll travel to play Fairleigh Dickinson, Southern Mississippi, and Quinnipiac over four days starting March 13.
