After sweeping rival Xavier University on Nov. 3, the Butler University volleyball team has not lost a match since Oct. 13.

Butler stifled Xavier’s three-match winning streak. The Bulldogs tallied ten blocks in the match, while Xavier did not record a block. Senior setter Makayla Ferguson posted a team-high 30 assists and added eight digs.

“It’s always great to get a sweep,” Ferguson said. “Especially at home. It gives us a lot of momentum and confidence going into this week as we prepare for a couple of tough matches next weekend.”

The Bulldogs boosted their record to 19-6 (9-4 Big East) with the 25-19, 25-18, 25-23 victory. Junior middle blocker Bri Lilly recorded 10 kills, and junior outside hitter Anna Logan added eight kills with a .358 attack percentage.

“We all needed that sweep,” Logan said. “Tonight, we really outsmarted Xavier and stuck to our game plan. We knew we had to block well and flood their right back, which is exactly what we did.”

Butler will continue its homestand on Saturday, Nov. 11 against Providence College. First serve at historic Hinkle Fieldhouse is scheduled for 1 p.m.

“We knew we needed to solidify our spot in three and get the win tonight,” junior libero Taylor Takeda said. “This feels amazing because we have a rivalry with Xavier.”
