The Butler University volleyball team swept Providence College on Sunday afternoon. Junior outside hitter Anna Logan recorded 16 kills and two service aces in the matinee.

“Our offense was on fire today,” Logan said. “This was an important bounce-back match after Creighton.”

The final scores of the Big East match were 25-12, 25-22, 25-20. Butler improved to 15-6 (5-4 Big East) with the victory.

The Bulldogs finished with 50 kills, while Providence finished with only 31. Freshman outside hitter Natalie Ravenell and junior libero Taylor Takeda added 12 digs apiece. Redshirt junior outside hitter Whitney Beck recorded a double-double, posting 11 kills and 13 digs.

“We kept them out of system and they had trouble getting in their comfort zone,” Beck said. “We kept them guessing all game, which helped us pulled out the W.”

Assistant coach Sofia Sanchez said the Bulldogs kept the opposing offense limited and hesitant.

“We also kept our offense spread so they could not just stop one player,” Sanchez said. “We played together so that even when down, we fought back hard to finish each set strong. It was a solid win and we can’t wait for the second round.”

The Bulldogs will return to action on Friday, Oct. 20 at DePaul University. The match will mark the beginning of the second round of Big East play.

“We’re looking to get some revenge on teams who beat us in the first half,” Logan said. “We’re excited to move up and make the Big East tournament.”
