The Butler University softball team took a tough-luck loss to Eastern Illinois University at home on April 11. The Bulldogs lost 2-0 in the nonconference tilt.

Their best chance to score came in the sixth inning with the Panthers up one run. Sophomore outfielder Jenna Foreman singled and stole second to lead off the inning. She was sacrificed to third base, but two consecutive strikeouts halted the threat.

Foreman had Butler’s only two hits.

“I really struggled with every approach last weekend,” Foreman said. “It helped me a lot to just slow everything down and be more relaxed in the box.”

Freshman Gabbi Schnaiter fell to 6-9 in the circle on the season. She allowed only four hits.

Butler had scored at least four runs in each of its games dating back to the Big East opener against DePaul on March 25. That eight-game streak was snapped Tuesday, and the Bulldogs were shut out for the first time since March 17 against the University of Toledo.

“We have such a good team,” Foreman said. “We just need to trust what we’ve been working on all season and pull it together. Lots of focus these next three days before St. John’s will be huge.”

Butler, now 17-20 on the season and 5-3 in the Big East, will square off against conference foe St. John’s University over the weekend. First pitch of the April 15 doubleheader is slated for noon.
