In 2025, Sze was named the 25th poet laureate of the United States, as well as a National Book Award winner. A poet laureate is an extremely rare and difficult accomplishment, with only one per year being selected to represent the nation as a whole. Aside from Sze’s notability, he is the author of 12 books of poetry, including “Into the Hush” and “Sight Lines”. This event is free, open to the public and fulfills a Butler Cultural Requirement (BCR).

Why attend: Written by Spanish playwright and director Federico García Lorca, “The House of Bernarda Alba” follows the namesake of the play, Bernarda, as she imposes an oppressive mourning period on her five daughters, causing tensions galore as the women compete for the one eligible bachelor left in town. 3. Music at Butler: Butler University Choirs
When: Oct. 10 at 7:30 p.m.
Where: Schrott Center for the Arts
Why attend: Witness the inter-choral magic of a show with all of Butler’s choir groups. With performances from Butler University Chorale, Spectra, and Chamber singers, audience members can expect to be delighted with the concert’s program theme, “I am, We are”. The concert will be available to livestream online, and in-person attendance is free with no ticket requirement. This event fulfills a BCR credit.

5. Tuesday Spotlight Series: S’mores and Crafts
When: Oct. 13 at 7 p.m.
