Butler women’s soccer wins season opener at Kent State

The Butler women’s soccer team won their first game of the season against Kent State University by a score of 3-1 behind three goals from two freshman players.

The first half saw two goals in the first 15 minutes of action. The Bulldogs found the back of the net first by way of freshman forward Anja Savich in the 10th minute. Junior forward Cassidy Blacha assisted on the goal.

Just three minutes later, the Golden Flashes answered back, scoring on their only shot of the first half.  

The Bulldogs dominated the offensive end in the first half and put three of their eight shots on goal.

Freshman midfielder Morgan Kloosterman scored her first goal in a Butler uniform in the 41st minute as the Bulldogs took a 2-1 lead into halftime.

The second half was more of the same story as the Bulldogs put four shots on frame. The lone goal of the second half came in the 55th minute from Savich by way of an assist from senior forward Paige Monaghan.

Butler will return to the Bud and Jackie Sellick Bowl for their home opener against IUPUI on Monday, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m.
