Butler golf has strong showings at Spring Invitational

The Butler University men’s and women’s golf teams had strong placings at the Butler Spring Invitational at Prestwick Golf Club on March 20-21.

The men’s golf team finished second overall with a team total of 606 after rounds of 307 and 299 shots.

The Bulldogs saw all five players in their lineup finish inside the top ten. The effort was spearheaded by sophomores Gehrig Hollatz and Ricky Kuiper who both finished tied for third with two round totals of 152.

Junior Hunter Byram followed closely behind with a total of 153 which was good enough for solo seventh. Freshman Pat Allgeier and senior Joey Arcuri rounded out the Butler lineup with in a tie for eighth with 154 total. Arcuri had the low round of the second day with a 2-over par 74.

Sophomore Zach Carrabine and senior Iain Ferlmann competed as individuals finishing tied for 11th and 17th, respectively.

IUPUI took home both the team title and the individual title. The Jaguars had a team total of 603 to best the Bulldogs by three shots. IUPUI’s Justin Holt won the individual title after turning in rounds of 74 and 75.

The women’s golf team took home the top six spots in the individuals only tournament.

Led by juniors Abigail Gleixner and Kelsey McDougall who posted rounds of 77, the Bulldogs followed suit and occupied the next four spots on the leaderboard. Sophomore Lauren Tibbets and freshman Betsy Werner turned in rounds of 79 and 80 to take the next two spots, and senior Megan McCambridge and junior Rachel Gathof tied for fifth with rounds of 82.  

Freshmen Janisa Bondoc and Catie Liggett rounded out the Bulldogs lineup with rounds of 85 and 88 respectively.

The women’s golf team is back in action March 25-27 when they compete in the Stetson Invitational in Deland, Florida. The men’s team will compete at the Big Four Classic in Carmel, Indiana, on April 11.
