Schank leads Butler baseball to third straight win

The Butler baseball team won its third straight game Friday afternoon, as it defeated Cleary 5-0 to open up a three-game home stand.

Butler starting pitcher Jeff Schank (2-4) earned his second win of the season by tossing seven shutout innings and allowing only three hits. He struck out seven and walked only one.

Butler (6-14) got the only run it would need in the third inning, as Drew Small scored Austin Miller on an RBI single. The Bulldogs added two runs in the fourth inning on an RBI single from Garrett Christman and a sacrifice fly from Tyler Houston. The Bulldogs added a run in the fifth as Mike Kseniak had an RBI single, and Austin Miller capped the scoring with a squeeze bunt in the eighth.

Luke Johnson pitched two innings in relief, allowing no runs on one hit and striking out a pair.

The Bulldogs host Wabash (5-6) today at 3:30 p.m. They wrap up the season-opening home stand tomorrow as Indiana Tech comes to Bulldog Park. Sunday’s first pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
