Butler sophomore David Goldsmith gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead with a goal a little over 31 minutes into the first half.
Goldsmith has three goals on the season, tied with Jeff Adkins for most on the team.
The Bulldogs were scoreless the rest of the night.
Butler head coach Paul Snape was disappointed with the result but credited Western Michigan.
“They came out with a lot intensity and hard work,” Snape said, “and I think they won the game because of it.”
Zach Bock scored both of goals for the Broncos.
His first goal came a little over 27 minutes into the game with an assist from sophomore Edu Jimenez.
He struck again 38 minutes into the second half.
Butler’s next game is at Indiana University Wednesday, Sept. 17th. Kick-off is at 7:30.
