Men’s soccer: Bulldogs upset No. 7 Louisville

With a high profile schedule ahead of them, the Butler men’s soccer team earned a 1-0 victory at No. 7 Louisville in front of 1,700 fans at Cardinal Park.

The Bulldogs (1-0-1) were able to score the only goal of the match when freshman forward Anthony Smith Jr. put in a shot right near the left post in the 44th minute.

Junior midfielder Zach Steinberger received a yellow card for Butler in the 61st minute.

Junior goalkeeper Andy Holte had 4 saves in the match.

Butler recorded 10 shots, five of which were on goal in the match. The Cardinals recorded 12 shots, 5 of which were on goal.

The match was a physical one as the Bulldogs had 10 fouls to Louisville’s 5 fouls.

The win improves Butler’s record to 2-0-1. The Bulldogs return to the Butler Bowl on Monday evening in a 7 p.m. match against Houston Baptist.
