Women’s tennis: Bulldogs defeat IUPUI before break

The Butler women’s tennis team went into spring break on a positive note after downing Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis 6-1 on March 9.

The Bulldogs (3-10) were able to snap a seven-match skid with five singles victories and a pair of wins in doubles play against the Greyhounds (3-15).

Sophomore Stephanie McLoughlin defeated sophomore Danielle Haefele 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 in No. 1 singles action to lead the way.

Butler also received singles wins from junior Brittany Farmer at No. 2, senior Cam Thompson at No. 3, sophomore Laura Shull at No. 5 and senior Kate Panawash at No. 6.

At No. 1 doubles, the duo of McLoughlin and Farmer scored an 8-6 win over IUPUI’s duo of Haefele and junior Alisha Cummings.

Senior Ashley Breitenbach and sophomore Angelina Qin teamed up to score a victory at No. 2 doubles.

The Bulldogs will start their conference season with matches against Valparaiso on March 24 and Illinois at Chicago on March 25.
