The Butler University women’s basketball team fell to 6-11 in Big East play with a 64-55 road loss to Creighton University on Feb. 18. The Bulldogs are now 14-15 overall for the season.

After Butler outscored Creighton 22-9 in the first quarter in their previous matchup, the Bluejays got off to a strong start the second time around, outpacing the Bulldogs 18-10 in the first ten minutes of play. Though both teams struggled to find the basket in the second quarter, Butler was able to outscore Creighton 10-7 and head into the second half down by five points.

Following an early Butler basket, Creighton went on a 12-0 run early in the third quarter to widen their lead. The Bulldogs were able to respond and nearly match the Bluejays in the quarter, but still trailed by seven points heading into the final ten minutes of play.

Butler brought Creighton’s lead down to just five points early in the fourth quarter, but the Bluejays were able to pull away in the final minutes for the victory.

Junior center Tori Schickel led Butler with a game-high 20 points, and also tallied eight rebounds. Creighton was able to limit Butler leading scorer and redshirt junior guard Whitney Jennings to just ten points in the contest. Jennings did add four rebounds and five assists.

Sophomore guard Kristen Spolyar collected seven points and eight rebounds, while sophomore forward Shae Brey and senior forward Kaela Hodges each finished with six points.

For the game, Creighton outshot Butler from the field 44 to 35 percent and from beyond the arc 39 to 19 percent. Creighton also out-rebounded Butler 38-35.

The Bulldogs will look to end the regular season on a high note when they take on Xavier University in Cincinnati on Feb. 25.
