The Butler women’s swimming team is heading to the 2015 Big East Swimming  and Diving Championship at Ithaca College this weekend.

The Bulldogs will be competing against Georgetown University, Providence College, Seton Hall University, Villanova University and Xavier University for a shot at the title.

The event, which begins tonight, will take place at the Ithaca College Athletics and Events Center Aquatics Pavilion in Ithaca, New York.

The swim team finished the regular season with a 3-7 overall record and a fifth-place spot. Even though the season was a disappointment, the Aquatic Lady Dawgs finished strong.

Sarah Gibbons was named swimmer of the meet and multiple Butler swimmers set season-best times in the Olivet Nazarene-Lake Forest Swim Meet, according to bigeast.com.

Head coach Maurice Stewart said he is more confident than ever in this team.

“The team is coming off a hard month of training where they focused on detail and how to approach their race,” he said. “We are set up well to head into championship season and have an outstanding Big East meet.”

The championships will be split into seven sessions, with the 800-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley relays taking place today.

Live coverage of the 2015 Big East Swimming and Diving Championships will be provided by the Big East Digital Network on Fox Sports Go.
