The women’s basketball team gets its next chance to right the ship on Jan. 29 against Seton Hall. The Bulldogs have lost three straight games, and a win against the Pirates would provide a huge dose of momentum.

Here is what you need to know before Butler takes on Seton Hall:

Who: Butler vs Seton Hall

When: Jan 29, 7 p.m.

Where: Walsh Gymnasium

How to watch: BEDN

Previous matchup

The Pirates marched into Hinkle Fieldhouse on Dec. 29 and brought home a 69-49 win. Seton Hall took a first-quarter lead, then cemented its victory with a 26-point outburst in the second frame.

The Pirates held Butler in check offensively for most of the game. Sophomore guard Riley Makalusky was the Dawgs’ leading scorer with 11 points but needed nine free throws to reach the double-digit scoring mark. No other Bulldog scored more than nine points.

For Seton Hall, first-year guard Jada Eads made her presence felt on both ends of the floor. The Orlando native poured in 26 points and racked up four steals.

Scouting the Pirates

Eads is part of a dynamic scoring trio alongside graduate forward Faith Masonius and sophomore guard Savannah Catalon, all of whom average 13 or more points per game.

Masonius will be paramount to the Pirates’ success, as she is their leading scorer and also second on the team in assists. Despite her relative success as a facilitator, Butler will need to apply heavy pressure when Masonius has the ball, forcing her to make difficult passes. Masonius leads the Pirates in turnovers, so double-teams could lead to takeaways for the Bulldogs.

Those steals could prove vital for the Dawgs if they are going to secure a win against one of the Big East’s top teams.
