The Butler volleyball team won its Big East home opener in a thrilling five-set game against DePaul on Oct. 2. The Bulldogs are now 1-1 in Big East play while the Blue Demons are 1-3.

The Bulldogs started the match off slow, dropping the first set to DePaul, 25-17. Butler then found its stride, winning the next two sets, 25-22, and 25-21.

The Blue Demons would fight back in the fourth, going on a 3-0 run to end the set and even the match at two sets apiece.

Butler has struggled with fifth sets, and when DePaul opened the final set up on an 8-2 run, it did not look promising for the Bulldogs. But the team then began chipping away at the Blue Demon lead.

Megan Ramseyer went on a six-point serving run to get the Bulldogs and the crowd back in it. Butler pulled out the win, 15-12, notching its first five-set victory this season.

Melody Davidson was named the Big East Digital Network Player of the Match as she had eight kills and a team-high 11 blocks.

Anna Logan led the team with a double-double, adding 15 kills and 13 digs.

“It was an exciting game and definitely gave us confidence and momentum heading into this weekend at Georgetown and Villanova,” Logan said. “[We’re] looking forward to a great weekend of competition and if we played with the heart we had last night we will come out 2-0.”

Butler will play the Hoyas in Washington, D.C., at 5 p.m. on Oct. 4 and the Wildcats in Pennsylvania at 7 p.m. the next day.
