The Butler men’s soccer team (1-0) took to the road in their first away match of the season against the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis Jaguars (0-0-1) at Carroll Stadium.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a hot start in the match with a goal headed in by senior forward Austin Oldham in the 11th minute.
Sophomore forward Jeff Adkins added another goal for Butler in the 55th minute to put Butler in front 2-0.
IUPUI sophomore defensive midfielder Lance Davis put the Jaguars on the board in the 60th minute.
In the final minutes, IUPUI freshman forward Johnny Williams found the back of the net in the 81st minute to tie the game at 2-2.
Neither team was able score in extra time and the match ended in a draw after 110 minutes played.
“We were very sloppy with our passing at times, and on other occasions we were very dynamic with our attacking play,” Butler coach Paul Snape said. “Bottom line, we didn’t play great tonight, but we showed a lot of resilience to not get beat.”
Butler recorded 27 shots in the match, 6 of which were on goal.
The Bulldogs will be back on the road Saturday when they travel to Louisville for a 7 p.m. match.
