The Butler women’s tennis team experienced nothing but struggles last Sunday, as No. 59 Memphis came to town and left with a 7-0 shutout.
For the Bulldogs (2-4), all of the matches against the Tigers (5-1) were decided in straight sets.
Butler’s No. 2 doubles team of senior Brittany Farmer and sophomore Caroline Hedrick was competitive against the Memphis duo of senior Mariya Slupska and sophomore Stefanie Mikesz, winning four games in an 8-4 defeat.
Senior Cam Thompson was the only Bulldog to win more than three games in a singles match.
In No. 5 singles action, Thompson fell to freshman Alyssa Hibberd 6-2, 6-2.
Butler started its weekend on a more positive note by defeating the University of Indianapolis 7-0 last Saturday.
The Bulldogs won all six singles matches and all three doubles matches against the Greyhounds (1-1) to capture the victory.
Highlighting doubles play was an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles by the team of Farmer and Hedrick.
Hedrick also scored a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles while sophomore Stephanie McLoughlin won at No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-1.
The Bulldogs traveled to Xavier today for a non-conference match. Results were not available at press time.
