Women’s golf team takes Cougar Classic title

Junior Michelle Nash received individual runner-up honors as she led the Butler women’s golf team to a first-place finish at the Cougar Classic Tuesday.

The 36-hole event, which was hosted by Chicago State University, was held at Lost Marsh Golf Course in Hammond, Ind.

After the first round, Butler trailed IUPUI by two strokes, but managed to outshoot the Jaguars on Tuesday 312-318 to capture the title.

Nash had the low score during round one (71) on Monday and finished just two strokes behind IUPUI medalist Kristie O’Brien in the individual competition.

Nash shot a 77 through the final 18 holes and finished with a four-over-par 148. Throughout the tournament, Nash carded five birdies and 23 pars.

Senior Molly Fields was the second-best Bulldog golfer during the two-day event, finishing with a total score of 150 and tying for fourth in the individual competition.

Sophomore Julia Porter recorded the tournament’s only eagle en route to shooting a 158. Porter recorded an 82 on Monday and a 76 on Tuesday to finish tied for 14th.

Butler freshman Ali Restaino shot 83 both rounds and tied for 36th, while  senior Marcella Moreman tied for 59th.

The Bulldogs will be hosting their own invitational tournament Oct. 4-5.
