The Butler volleyball team lost in three sets at No. 19 Marquette University on Oct. 10. Butler fell to 6-14 (3-5 Big East) on the season.

The Bulldogs spread the offense around in the 12-25, 13-25, 22-25 loss. Senior middle blocker Bri Lilly and junior outside hitter Brooke Gregory posted eight kills apiece. Sophomore outside hitter Rachel Klitzing recorded four kills, and sophomore outside hitter Natalie Ravenell added two.

“We learned a lot about the things we need to work on,” Ravenell said. “They will prepare us for Saturday.”

Lilly, the all-time Butler block leader, served the Bulldogs’ lone ace and recorded two block assists. Redshirt freshman middle blocker Melody Davidson posted a team-high four blocks.

“I believe we learned we need to take some more risks,” assistant coach Sofia Sanchez said. “I think there were times when we played a little too safe. We need to be more aggressive with our offense.”

Redshirt junior setter Maddie Freiwald finished with a team-high 23 assists, four digs and one kill. Freshman libero Elizabeth LaBue added a team-high 14 digs.

The Bulldogs will return to Hinkle Fieldhouse this weekend for a matinee against Xavier University on Oct. 13. First serve is set for 2 p.m.

“We will prepare by sharpening up a few things, moving on and looking ahead,” defensive specialist Taylor Takeda said.
