In a six-day period from April 3 to April 8, 16 incidents were reported to the Butler University Police Department. Reports include vandalism at Irwin Library and three separate incidents at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

A representative from BUPD was not available to answer questions regarding the following reported incidents in the crime log at the time of publication.

On April 3, BUPD was called to Irwin Library in response to apparent vandalism. Julie Miller, dean of libraries for Butler, said a wall covering on the second floor appeared to have been cut.

“The walls on the second floor have moisture seep through them, so we have wall coverings on them to keep the moisture away,” she said. “It looked like someone had taken a knife to the wall cover.”

Miller said BUPD came to the scene and took notes, but the case was unfounded and closed.

Hinkle Fieldhouse was the location of three reported incidents last week. On April 2, there was a report of fraud/theft from a building at 3:31 p.m. Two days later, criminal mischief/vandalism was reported by BUPD at 3:47 p.m.

Then, on April 5, there was a report of arson, mischief, tampering – criminal mischief/vandalism in parking lot 25, which is the Hinkle Fieldhouse parking lot. This incident is currently being investigated by BUPD, according to the crime log.

A Butler Athletics official did not know the nature of the events that took place, and a representative from BUPD was not available to answer questions.

On April 6, another parking-related incident was reported. At the Butler parking garage, theft of motor vehicle parts was reported. The BUPD crime log records it occurred between March 31 and April 6. This incident is also currently being investigated.

A case of rape/battery and aggravated/dating violence was reported to BUPD on April 5. Initially, the aggravated/dating violence was reported on March 30, but it was updated last week to include the rape and battery charge. The report states the alleged rape occurred between Aug. 1 and Aug. 30, 2016.

BUPD reported to three separate locations for possession of marijuana last week that left one person arrested and two with a closed summons arrest.

On April 3, one person was arrested at Fairview House for possession of marijuana at 11:59 p.m.

Also at Fairview House on April 6, a possession of marijuana and possession of alcohol by a minor was reported. This incident resulted in a closed summons arrest at 11:02 p.m.

Within the hour, at 11:47 p.m., someone else in the CTS apartments also received a closed summons arrest for possession of marijuana. One person was summoned for furnishing alcohol to minors, six people were charged with minor possession and one person fled the scene of the crime.

On April 8, the crime logs indicate someone received a closes summons arrest from BUPD for possession of alcohol by a minor and minor consumption of alcohol.

One individual was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated on April 8 at 2:58 a.m. The crime log records the blood alcohol content of the individual was greater than .15 percent.
