Devour Indy is an annual two-week festival that is held across the Indianapolis area featuring over 100 restaurants, many being popular within the community. For summer 2021, the festival will go from Aug. 23 to Sep. 5. With the wide variety of different restaurants and foods, there is something to satisfy anyone’s cravings. Here are three participating restaurants that everyone can enjoy.

Hoagies & Hops

If you are in the mood for some Philadelphia-inspired subs, then Hoagies & Hops is the place for you. This sandwich shop offers a variety of cheesesteaks, cold Hoagies or vegan Italian sausage. Not only is it less than a mile from campus, but it also accommodates anyone who is gluten-free, vegetarian or vegan. This year, Hoagies & Hops is featuring an assortment of sandwiches which include a side, dessert and fountain drink for $13 per person, or, if you are of age, $17 with a Chilly Water pint from the taproom.

Junior economics major Ryan Robinson first discovered Hoagies & Hops with his roommate, who is from the Philadelphia area.

We were looking for a place that sells cheesesteaks and we found Hoagies & Hops, and it was close to Butler, so we walked there, and we had a great experience,” Robinson said.

Robinson describes the environment as being very welcoming, featuring Philadelphia memorabilia and great food.

“Either cheesesteak is great; you can get the classic cheesesteak or the chicken cheesesteak,” Robinson said. “They are both delicious, and their Hogs Island is good. There’s [also] a lot of sports on all the time and there’s a lot of Butler flags up, and, I’m not an Eagles fan, but obviously, if you are from Philadelphia it would be a really good place to go because they have a bunch of Philadelphia cultural stuff.”

Gallery Pastry Bar

This European-inspired pastry bar could be the perfect place to go on your next date. Located downtown, this restaurant is offering a three-course meal at $40 per couple, featuring a brunch menu, which includes everything from their french toast all the way to macaroons.

Maddie Aldrich, a sophomore double majoring in political science and human communication and organizational leadership, works as a server at Gallery Pastry Bar. Aldrich said the overall atmosphere is warm and inviting, particularly when it comes to the restaurant’s decor.

[Gallery Pastry Bar] is decorated super cute; [it] has a living wall decorated with a bunch of plants, big wooden family tables and bar seating,” Aldrich said. “Customers can even watch the desserts being made.”

Sidney Hill-Kartel, senior double majoring in organizational leadership and international business and marketing, also works as a server at Gallery Pastry Bar and agrees that the restaurant gives off a delightful vibe.

“The aesthetic is kinda earthy, there are a lot of blue and green colors with plants on the wall, and it’s really fun,” Hill-Kartel said.

Apocalypse Burger

This burger joint is described as serving revenge burgers, spite snacks and general end of the world anarchy. Apocalypse Burger is located just east of Butler and is known for its variety of burgers. For Devour Indy this year, this restaurant — for just $16 a person — is offering a selection of a burger, side and rootbeer float.

Apocalypse is open Wednesday through Sunday for dine-in, carryout and delivery through DoorDash.

Whether you are looking for a cheaper option or more fine-dining options, Devour Indy Summerfest 2021 has got you covered. Grab some friends, head over to any of the participating restaurants and be sure to ask for their Devour Indy menu.

Hill-Kartel said Devour Indy is the perfect opportunity to get outside of the Butler bubble and try new restaurants.

I think [Devour Indy] is a great idea to help bring relationships together around food in different restaurants and connecting people to new places that they might have not heard of or might not prioritize going [to],” Hill-Kartel said. “There are just so many awesome restaurants in Indy.”
